“Trauma is not what happens to you. It’s what happens inside of you.” - Dr. Gabor Maté

Trauma blocks your connection with yourself. It keeps you fragmented and tied to the past in a burdened way, producing pain and suffering. In the Radical Balance approach, I describe trauma response as “forgetting who you are.”
When you experience overwhelming stress or trauma, it is as if parts of you become frozen in time, stuck in an unresolved state, disconnected from the present moment and your wholeness. Trauma separates you from your intrinsic wholeness. You forget who you truly are underneath the traumatic experience.
In Radical Balance, healing and transformation are understood as reconnecting to your essential nature. When speaking of ‘forgetting who you are,’ it points to how trauma takes you away from your deepest truths. The four phases of Radical Balance provide a roadmap back home, to help you build capacities to rediscover the truth of who you are. This healing journey transforms trauma from disconnect to reconnection.
